The Proven 6-Step Job Search Strategy Process

Job search can be an overwhelming experience. Where to start? What to do first? What not to do is another area few people know about until they stagger into a search, get bruised along the way, and get depressed because they aren’t selected or worse is told they were second place. This an all-too-common occurrence. Thankfully, in time folks get offers and are hired. A person does learn how to optimize the job search strategy process – I’m living proof.

From years of experience, I can tell you some key fundamentals of job search- like how you should spend 6 to 10 hours of research for an opportunity. How you should review the company’s website, making sure to visit the media center for issues and news impacting them, connecting with present and past employees on LinkedIn and inquiring important questions like why they left the job or enjoy working at the company. Gain insights to the company culture and most importantly, stay actively networking by reaching out to people who know you, know what you can do. People at past employers, suppliers, partner companies and former associates.

Job Search Strategy Process Step #1: Career and Skills Assessment

What are your experiences, competencies and strengths? Let’s identify them. Understanding your unique value in the job market is essential. This self-awareness and organization will serve as your guiding light, helping you choose the right career direction aligned with your aspirations. Begin this step by reflecting on your journey, experiences, and accomplishments. Dive deep into your career history, identifying your core strengths and competencies.
